Sunil Gavskar was former indian captain and legendry batsman. The right handed batsman knows for his technique against fast bowlers against one of the speedy faster in 1970's and 1980's. He had 65.45 Batting average against former Windies pace attack. His captaincy was less successful for indian cricket.

Life :

He is the Son of Manohar Gavskar and Meenal Gavskar and born in Marathi Family. And he married to Marshneill Gavskar the daughter of Leather Industrialist. His son Rohan Gavskar also played for India. He played only 11 ODI's for India. But he failed to cement his spot in the national team.
Sunil Gavaskar's sister kavita married to famous Indian cricketer Gundappa Vishwanath. And his other sister Nutan Gavskar was the former general secretary of the Women's Cricket Association Of India.

Domestic Career :

In school Cricket Sunny Gavskar played for St. Xavier's School and at the age of 17 he was named India's  best schoolboy Cricketer of year award in 1966. He was made his first class Debut for Vazir Sultan Colt's 11 against Dungarpur 11 in Moin-Ud-Dowlah Gold cup tournament in 1966-67.
He made his Ranji Trophy Debut in 1968-69 season against Karnataka, After Two years sitting in Mumbai Ranji Trophy squad. He was Out on Duck in his debut match and letter scored Three consecutive Centuries.

International Career :

Test Career :

After Scoring Three consecutive Centuries in Ranji Trophy, He was selected for National team for West Indies tour in 1970-71.
He played Second match in that series in Port Of Spain, Trinidad and scored 65 and 67 Not Out and help India to win there First Test match against strong West Indies team. After second match he continues his form and hits maiden Century in Guyana in third Test. He hits century in fourth match as well and in fifth match he hits 124 and 220. Second player in Cricket history to score Century and Double Century in single match. And second Indian to score 2 centuries in single match. He helps India to win first test series over west indies. Defeating Australia in Australia this was the best moment he produced in his captaincy in 1981. He captained india in 47 matches won Nine matches and lose Eight matches. In Test he announced his Retirement in March 1987 after Pakistan Series.

One Day Internationals (ODI's) Career :

He is not considered as great indian ODI batsman. His average in ODI's is just 35. 13 playing after 108 ODI's. He was Only managed to hit One Century in ODI's. In 1975s Cricket World Cup Match against England, he scored only 36 Runs in 174 balls. For this innings every one criticise him and generated controversy as well. In 1985 he led India to win World Championship Of Cricket in Australia. This is glorious moment in his captaincy career. He captained India for 38 matches. In which he lost 19 matchs and win 14 matches. In ODI's he announced his retirement after lost in World Cup Semifinal against England in November 1987.

Records :

He was the first player in Test to score 10000 runs.
He held the record for highest number of centuries in Test 34, i.e. broke by Sachin Tendulkar in 2005.
He hold the record for highest Run scores in debut Test series 774.
He scored most runs against West Indies than any other player in Test series 774. 
Only Cricketer to scored 4 consecutive Centuries at two different vanues- Wankhede, Mumbai, India. Port Of Spain, West Indies.
First player to take 100 catches in Tests.
In 1983 against Pakistan he became first Indian cricketer who carry his bat in Test.
In 1980 he was named one of the wisdon Cricketer fo the year.

Awards :

1980 - Padma Bhushan Award, Indias third highest civilian award.
1996 - Border- Gavskar Trophy started in his honour. Any bilateral Test Series between Australia and India named Border-Gavskar Trophy. Both the players scored 10000 Runs in Test Cricket for there countries.
2003 - Only Indian and Third Overall Cricketer to delivered a MCC Spirit Of Cricket Cowdrey Lecture.
21 November 2012 - Gavskar Awarded with the BCCI's prestigious col. CK Naydu Lifetime Achievement Award.
