England had the distinction of becoming world champion for the first time on 14 July last year. The final of the World Cup 2019 at the historic Lord's ground between England and New Zealand had become one of the most prestigious and memorable World Cup finals in the history of the tournament so far. England won the World Cup for the first time by defeating New Zealand based on the controversial boundary counting rule.
World Cup 2019 Final Super Over: On the same day, both teams scored 15-15 runs in the first super over of the World Cup history played on July 14, 2019. New Zealand had scored 2 sixes and 14 fours in their innings, while hosts England had scored 2 sixes and 22 fours here. England were declared winners based on boundary rules.
The final was a tie and after that the super over was also dropped. Continuing to play the final for the second time, the New Zealand team, batting first, scored 241 for eight wickets in 50 overs. Henry Nicholls contributed 55 and Tom Latham contributed 47 runs. Host England, chasing this goal, lost their four wickets for 86 runs at one time.
After this, Ben Stokes (84) and Jose Butler (59) played the best innings and led the team to a score of 203 runs. England needed 9 runs from the last three balls of the final over of the match to become world champions for the first time.

On the fifth ball, Stokes were playing and going to the other end when Martin Guptill's throw hit the Stokes bat and crossed the boundary line and England were given a run. The match was thus tied and the match went into a super over.
Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler came to the crease for England in the Super Over, New Zealand pacer Trent Boult made a total of 15 runs in this over which included 2 fours. Jimmy Neesham and Martin Guptill commanded New Zealand in the Super Over while the ball was handed to Joffra Archer. The first ball was wide after which Neesham hit a six on the second ball. 2 runs off the final ball were needed for the win, but Guptill was run out.
