He is an indian cricketer who established himself as a great captain and great player too. Everyone knows him as a captain cool. 

Early Life :

He was born in Ranchi, Jharkhand (At the time of birth in Bihar) and he belongs from Hindu Rajput family. His father works in MECON as Junior Management Position. Mahi is a big fan of Adam Gilchrist, Sachin Tendulkar and in bollywood Amitabh Bachchan and Lata Mangeshkar. 
He also played badminton and football in his school team DAV Jawahar vidya mandir, Ranchi and for district and club level. He was a goalkeeper in football team and sent to play school cricket match as a Wicketkeeper by his football coach. With his impressive keeping skills letter he is regular keeper for commondo cricket club in 1995 to 1998. Letter he was selected for the vinoo Mankad trophy U-16 in 1997-98 based on his club cricket performance. He impressed everyone with his ability in vinoo mankad trophy as well. Once Dhoni was ticket checker at kharagpur Railway station in 2001-2003.

Domestic Career :

Dhoni's first Professional Cricket team is Central CoalFields Limited (CCL). He was selected in that team by Deval Sahay. Dhoni's stand out performance impresses the Deval Sahay and he used his contacts in Bihar Cricket Association to push his name selection for Bihar Crickete Team.
In 1998-1999 he was selected for the Bihar U-19 Cooch Behar Trophy where he played 7 matches and scored 176 runs in 5 Innings. In 1999-2000 he selected for the Bihar Ranji Trophy team. When he debuted for the Bihar in Ranji trophy he was just eighteen years of age. After playing Ranji trophy for three years dhoni was selected for the East Zone over international cricketer Deep Dasgupta.Dhoni was search from BCCI's small town talent spotting initiative, TRDW and find by TRDO Prakash Poddar. Dhoni was picked for India-A squad for Zimbabwe and kenya. His stand-out performance in that tour makes the attention of captain Sourav Ganguly.

International Career :

One Day Internationals (ODI's) :

Dhoni comes in limelight when team india struggling to find his regular keeper batsmans in 2000s. There are such high ranks keeper in the list after Dravid, Likes of Dinesh Karthik and Parthiv Patel. But Dhoni makes him suitable for keeper batsman position. And he was selected for the Indias ODI team for Bangladesh tour in 2004. But his International start is very disastrous and he was Run Out in this match on 0 Run. After his dissent performance in Bangladesh tour he was selected for the Pakistan tour. And in the second match of that series Dhoni Scored century. He scored century in his only Fifth One Day Internationals. He scored 148 runs from 123 balls. And from then Dhoni never looked back. After pakistan tour dhoni picked for Srilanka series. In that series he was promoted for the third number. He scored 183 runs in that match in kanpur and became the highest run scored by a Wicketkeeper batsman. In 2005 Dhoni also rewarded by BCCI with B grade annual contract.

Test Career :

In 2005 After his brilliant performance in Srilanka series he was picked for India's Test side replaces Dinesh Karthik. He scored not out 30 runs in Debut match, that was spoiled by Rain. Dhoni Scored his first Half Century in his second match with quick fire in just 51 balls. India toured pakistan in February 2006. where he scored his first Test century in Faisalabad. He played his last series in 2014 in Australian. After trailing by 0-2 Dhoni announced his retirement from Tests. He also became first indian captain to take india on No.1 in Test Rankings tally.

Twenty-20 Internationals (T-20) Career :

Dhoni played his first match in 2006 and also that is indias first T-20 match as well against South Africa. Letter in 2007 Dhoni was selected as Indias captain in first ever T-20 World Cup. His name was suggested by senior indian Players like Sachin Tendulkar. India played that world cup without coach and with very young team. After Kapil Dev, Dhoni became second captain to win world cup in any format. On 24 September 2007 in South Africa he created the history. 

World cups :

Dhoni is the only captain to won Two World Cups in 2 Two different formats. First he won T-20 world cup in 2007 in South africa. He led very young team in that world cup.
Second he won ODI World Cup in 2011 in India. India won that world after 28 years. He was awarded with man of the match in final match of the world cup. He scored 91 not out runs in 72 balls and help his side to win the world cup.

He also won the Champions trophy in England in 2014. 

Indian Premier league (IPL) Career :

Chennai Super Kings buys him for US$1.5 Millions. He was the most expensive player on that auction. He was captaining Chennai Super Kings from first edition of IPL to 2015. He led his team to won three titles In 2010, 2011 and 2018. He also won 2 Champion League T20  for CSK in 2010 and 2014. He is the most successful captain in IPL.
After CSK's 2 years of ban. In 2016-2017 he played for Rising Pune Supergiant. Pune bought him for US$1.9 millions.he only captained pune in 2016 edition of IPL.
After completion of CSK's ban Dhoni returns in CSK and led this side from 2017 to present.
